Dan's Redemption and Big Baby

With the Olympics this week, there is a lot of 'talk'

about 'redemption.'

A few weeks ago, Dan broke a 1930s full moon mirror

we had just found with a vanity.

I was extremely upset about the mirror, to put it bluntly.

Call me a big baby.

I'd wanted one of those mirrors for awhile.

So he went out later that week and found this big baby on the street...

...and totally redeemed himself!

As you can see in the photo, Big Baby needed a LOT of work.

After some new sides were glued on,

some puttying and sanding in critical areas,

some wooden dowels hammered out and glued in to fill in the missing trims,

priming, painting, distressing, and waxing,

here is Big Baby today...

This vintage white color is becoming a favorite...

White Chocolate, by Ben Moore.

Lots of antique drawers for storage!

The original hardware was scrubbed with some

baking soda, vinegar, hot water, and a brush.

Big Baby's back in town!

No more street walkin' allowed, now she'll party with high class ladies...

Come and see Big Baby at...

  3. Andrea-What a great looking old piece. I think it is almost identical to one Gramma Hazel had that my daughter now owns. She also has a matching piece that is shorter and wider. I LOVE it painted white. I wish I had a picture to show you and see if it is the same one. I think it is 1920's (when they got married). Blessings-xo Diana

  22. That's so pretty, Andrea. I like the three drawers on top of the dresser. It was so nice of your husband to find this treasure for you.

    Oh, Nel's colors are:
    Bridesmaids in black dresses
    holding white roses.
    Tables are black tablecloths
with red roses and a lantern
    with a white candle inside.
Her dress is white and she is
    holding red roses.
Thank you for asking. It won't be long now, and she will be married away like the rest of us. hehe
    A happy Sunday to you.

  24. I'd say your husband MORE than redeemed himself. Of course, you took someone's throwaway and made it into a treasure. What a transformation - wonder what the people who tossed Big Baby would say if they could see her now? Absolutely love this. Ann
