Third Sunday of Advent and Meaning of Candy Canes

The candy cane is an iconic Christmas symbol,

synonomous with holiday cheer and sweets.

You can probably find a box of peppermint canes

for just a dollar at your local market.

It's also a sweet reminder of Jesus as our Good Shepherd:

it's very shape reminiscent of a shepherd's hook;

the red stripe, His sacrifice:

"But  he was pierced for our offenses,

crushed for our sins,

Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole,

and by his stripes we were healed."

Isaiah 53:5

Whatever grief and sorrow you may carry, remember He came to heal.

He came to us on Christmas to heal.

  1. I love the symbolism of the candy cane, too. AND turned upside down it is a J for Jesus- xo Diana

  2. Did you also know that you should find three stripes on the candy cane that stands for the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  3. Andrea,
    I love the candy canes, and this reminds me to get some at the store soon for Christmas. I have a beautiful story about the meaning of the candy canes. I read it every year. Have a wonderful week coming up, sweetie.
