Guy Stuff

When there are neighborhood sales, and the women flock like the swallows of Capistrano in groups down the street, the men have to have someplace to go... a cave, where they can hang out and talk guy talk.

Mr. Neil, our neighbor to the west, realized this late on Thursday's sale and made a sign for today.  It promptly caught our attention, and then my husband and boys went next door to investigate.

Oh, there was indeed guy stuff.  Mantiques, to be exact.  And lots of man-talk.

I was so intrigued upon their return that I had to wander over later and check this out myself.

He really did have a nice display...and told me all about an upcoming swap meet for auto parts coming up that he was preparing for.

The light filtered through the garage door beautifully on Mr. Neil's tools and hardware.  I really like this image with the cut milk jug.

And, on a sentimental note, the handwritten labels reminded me of Boompa's writing.  The mixture of upper and lower case and the slant of the letters provided instant nostalgia...

...and comic relief in the 90 degree weather.

Garage Sale

Had a garage sale today.  It is ongoing throughout the weekend.  We did alright for our first day, but honestly did not sell everything I had hoped.

There were some cute things out for sale that I really need to unload because I have too much...

and I have been busy making some chalkboards thinking they might go over well.

Most of the visitors responded that I had very nice displays that made a visual impace when driving by....

and I think we got a lot of attention.

but we do live in the Chicago southland, not the northside.  People want/need kids' clothes and items.  People want deals.  Steals.  And I guess I am not ready to part with some things SO much that it would be a steal.  Yet.

But,

more than one person asked if I had a shop.

Cool.

I wish I did.

Hopin' for more sales tomorrow!

Map

I bought an awesome map at the Kane County Flea this month.  It is of continental Europe and has some bright colors just right for my kitchen.  When I saw it I knew I had the perfect spot for it.

Thank you, Iowa Junk Gypsies!!

Candids With Chickens

Our chickens are approximately 18 months old.  We looked for a long time on line before we decided on buying baby chicks from Randall Burkey Company.  We purchased from RBC because they have this great ongoing special called, "The Five Chick Special."  It allows you to purchase just five chicks which are shipped to your home.

Here comes Big Brenda right now.  Anytime you come out to the coop, they come right over to see if you have a treat for them.  They also find the shiny camera enticing.

Also of interest to them would be painted toes and anything shiny on your shoes.

This interesting looking French blue structure is our hen house.  My husband built this by hand.  It is actually our children's baby crib, repurposed.  The crib was the central framework and then he insulated the house and added a wood exterior.  The inside has been fitted with a perch and nesting box as well.  You can see the little outdoor run attached to their home for when we are not at home.

What do chickens do on a hot summer day?  They take refuge in the shade of an evergreen...

...or search out in the yard for some tasty bugs to eat.

They also wander over to the vegetable garden to see what kind of damage they can do.  Usually rollin' in the dirt or rootin' through the tomatoes.

The eggs are great to eat and the kids love them.  Not only are they healthy, but they come in an amazing palette of soft browns and blues.

New Girl on the Block

Hello, Girls!  I am slow in joining the blogging chain gang here, but better late than never!  Here is my debut with my very first post!  I am still working on adding more photography, but I wanted to get started  with the text and writing.

Don't we all just love summer and her colors?  My daughter epitomizes summer's vibrance here.  I felt these pictures would be perfect to celebrate our first post.  She just loves to be a ham.

And here she is blowing kisses (hello, all!)

Oh, we're getting FANCY now!

And ya gotta have a little, "he loves me, he loves me not."
She just loves her some peonies for pickin'.

From time to time we will be posting about antiques, home decor, magazine love, gardening (!) pets (chickens, angora rabbits, puppies, soulful inspirations, anything vintage, and getting along with life here in the midwest.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Regards,
