They Wanted to Sell Us Cats...

...but my husband was on a mission:  pick up the intended items I had found on Ebay Classifieds, pay for the items, and leave.

It was a cat HOUSE.  His throat was starting to itch.  He was ready to go.  The neighborhood was none too friendly.  Burned out and graffitied shells of homes dotted the street and landscape.

Across the street, two elderly people sat in rocking chairs on their front porch watching the transaction.

He said it was very surreal, and he felt like he was in the movie Grand Torino.  Oops.  He's correcting me...GRAN Torino.  Guess I know nothing of cars.  Or Clint Eastwood movies.

It was one of those towns where you know every single home still standing probably had beautiful old furniture it it just like this one.

With detailed history found in every curve.  Where the mirrors are starting to ghost, like this one.  Others may say the mirror would need to be replaced.  Not me.  I felt like I knew her well...even when I just saw her as a blip on the computer screen.  She was purchased simultaneously and rode home in tandem with the highboy I posted about earlier.

In neighborhoods such as these, as the older generation disappears the younger one will sell off their possessions for pennies, not understanding, needing, or appreciating the true beauty.

Just a couple of coats of paint and some sanding restores her - to some degree- of regal elegance.  Simple fall decor keeps her grounded and whimsical.

Are you nostalgic for old times?  These Halloween lovelies were purchased at Homegoods two years ago.  They sell a beautiful selection of vintage reproductions for cheap prices that are just too cute to pass up.

If you can't afford real Halloween antiques, as they are hard to come by, stylish repros will still let you dream about the times they must have been aplenty.

My kids are starting to debate about how they will dress up for tricks and treats this year.   We are all starting to get into the spirit of fall.

That is a pretty dresser, I love the old mirror. I have a similar one we have our TV on (did not come with a mirror though). Hopefully there are still enough people who appreciate old furniture like this. I know since I got the thrifting and antiquing bug a few years ago, I have not bought any furniture since, the old vintage stuff has so much more character.

I love the whimsy of this post. The dresser looks great, and make a perfect backdrop for the cats. Great vignette.

The cats dragged me in but I stayed because I too appreciate the furniture of long gone relatives. (Mainly mine, some other people's.)
Lovely curve to the mirror.

Love those cats! They are purr-fect! Sorry, I couldn't resist. I love vintage repro's. Just picked up a new spooky one on Fri. I have a blue cupboard that I fill with my vintage type Halloween decor. It's my favorite. That dresser is so darn cute! Yes, I would leave the mirror just as it is. Oh, if it could speak the stories it could tell. I'm sure many a young girl primped while looking into it. Now following you. Thanks for visiting me.

I'm loving your vintage inspired Halloween decorations. The cat heads are creepy/cute. The hunt for cute Halloween decoration starts now!

I found your blog via Coastal Charm's Nifty Thrifty Tuesday.

You know, I love to go to the thrift stores in those type of neighborhoods for that reason. The really old people have the best stuff and when they go off to nursing homes or other places their kids want all the "old junk" out of the house. I had to laugh at your Grand Torino reference. When I watched that movie I was eyeing an old table they had on the neighbor's porch.

She is definitely a Beauty! And I am sure she is happy for the chance at many more years of useful service. Your are lucky to have such a devoted Husband to trek into unknown territories and pick for ya ~ LOL!!

So love the Spooky Cats! I too love vintage Halloween decor, but it is rather outrageous in price.

XoXo,

It looks really great, and perfect with your cool cats. I didn't know that when mirrors did that it was called 'ghosting' - how appropriate! My dressing table is 40s and the mirror is a little fuzzy, but maybe that helps!
